Turn your bathroom into a luxurious spa

The bathroom is the sanctuary of a home, a place for you to relax after a long day out. So it makes perfect sense to invest in the design of this part of the home, ensuring that it not only feels luxurious, but also light and airy.

A simple way to create a sanctuary in your bathroom is to go for a minimalist design.

In this bathroom in a Guangzhou house, a spacious layout is complemented with a simple palette of shades of white, cream, grey and brown, which allows luxurious materials like marble to shine. As such, the design is luxurious yet not overpowering, creating a clean and airy look for a tranquil mood.

The toilet bowl might not be the most aesthetic, but you can enhance its look by using a beautiful piece of marble to create a feature wall behind the toilet bowl.

Luxurious and minimalist do not mean you have to be boring. You can incorporate bits of your personality in your bathroom, like this other bathroom in the same house in Guangzhou. The owner is a fan of the relaxing feel of tropical resorts, so Clifton added a Southeast Asian-inspired steaming bucket, which not only allows the owner to have a comfortable steam, but also adds character to the bathroom.

Lighting also plays an important role in achieving the dream bathroom.

In this bathroom of a Mid-levels apartment, a cosy atmosphere is created through the use of indirect blue lighting. The soft blue lighting creates a muted, spa-like mood. This unique feature is complemented with a minimalist design, which allows stylish décor pieces such as the Nefertiti gold patterned vase from Lane Crawford, the gold candleholders from The Candle Company, and the candle dish from House, a Melbourne brand, to take centre stage.

Another highlight of the bathroom is a sunken bath, which doubles up as a showering facility.

The owner of this apartment sure has a taste for the finer things in life when he chose to get a flat with stunning views of Victoria Harbour. To ensure the stunning backdrop is not wasted, Clifton used smart glass technology, which allows occupants to be able to see the sea views and the adjoining living room. But when the occupants need more privacy, they can switch to a frosted glass mode.

The beautiful views are also complemented by a luxurious and relaxing design, which features a rainshower from Gessi that comes with a unique blue LED light feature.

Another unique feature of the apartment is the use of indirect lighting, not only for the ceiling, but even the bathtub, which is from TOTO.

An Unconventional Oasis with a Spark of Color

The beauty of this apartment is the abundance of living areas, with the right touch of contrasting hues to make a bold statement which the owner loves. Accent colors in blue and green in the living room create a striking visual effect with a modern look. While restructuring the interior layout, the design adopts “simplicity in lines” as the basic principle to accentuate the minimalistic look amid the splash of color.

Furniture and adornments are tactfully selected to strike a balance between the color-driven yet minimalistic design.  The blue / white designer combination sofa adds character and personality to the entire space. The blue sliding door separating the living room and the bedrooms becomes a predominant feature wall. The green chairs create just the right extent of visual stimulation at the dining corner.   Quirky as it may seem, the custom-made carpet with the intricacies of the interwoven color patterns, is one-of-a-kind and sure to capture a lot of attention. Capitalizing on the expansive sea view, broad sliding doors are applied to the balcony, to bring the outdoors in, hence, enhancing the airiness of the apartment.

Right by the entrance of the dazzling blue door, there sits a perfect man cave. A designer AV room which creates a special sanctuary for the owner to indulge in his private world of entertainment.  Inspired by  artistic 3D installation, all sound absorbers and acoustic diffusers are aesthetically embedded to appear stylish yet functional. The four gigantic diffusers overhanging on the ceiling are brilliantly transformed into a spectacular ceiling light, another bold statement, masculine and cool.  Black sound absorber panels on the wall surface create a gallery-like art-piece display.  Additional sound absorbers in blue are embedded in the wall cabinet to enhance the visual impact and complement the blue LED lighting.

The guest bathroom design symbolizes a resort-like haven with intricate beauty. A sought-after exotic and adventurous sensation that the owner desires.  Italian-made Bisazza tiles with custom-design patterns create a magical surface and flooring like no other.

In contrast with the bold use of colors, the bedroom and en-suite bathroom come with a lighter affair. To create a comfortable and cozy master bedroom, the décor within is soft and gentle, making bedtime even more appealing. The en-suite bathroom, furnished with a palette of earth tone colors, creates a soothing oasis to unwind after a long day work.

Right between the master bedroom and the en-suite bedroom, there stands an open dressing table and a walk-in closet. The exotic chandelier in this passageway between the bedroom and the bathroom creates a spark of visual excitement in this more relaxing ambience.

This apartment is an exemplification of unconventional designs that are set out to bring endless surprises to a normal home environment.

About the City Resort – Residence Bel-Air

Interior Design by Clifton Leung - Bel-Air - Balcony

Interior Design by Clifton Leung - Bel-Air - Living Room with natural materials like bamboo and wood

This project was started with a clear mission – to create a resort home for a couple who practice yoga and enjoy the spa life. As the location of the project has a magnificent and undisturbed sea view, this became the perfect inspiration for the “resort” theme design. Natural materials like sand stone, pebbles, slate, bamboo and wood have been used throughout, and special textured walls were used to blur boundaries between inside and out. Balcony shutters, an extra-large day bed in the study plus yoga room for exercise, meditation and massage – all help to create a relaxing resort feel. This is further enhanced by an open bathroom with the custom-made natural slate bath tub and shower area.

HOME THEATER for movies, concerts, musicals

What is your ideal HOME THEATER looks like ?

HOME THEATER should have furniture for maximum comfort but it should also create a theater mood not sleepy mood.

My AUDIO PARADISE of my projects:

THREE crucial elements for a "Home Theater" : FURNITURE / LIGHTING / AUDIO & VISUAL EQUIPMENTS

1. Go with armchairs
- It is harder to fall in temptation of falling asleep. And a set of theater armchairs will also add to the theater atmosphere.

2. Large pillows and puffy thick mats
- Provide a sense of freedom and can bring people closer together.

3. Lighting does add to the atmosphere of your home theater. You can also use light in the special niches in the wall featured across the room.

4. Sound proof features
- Loud music can all be silenced or at least muffled to tolerable levels with certain techniques and materials below.

Expert Advise :

** Install an acoustic diffuser, which helps maintain the acoustic energy in a room and at the same time removing strong echoes, you can enjoy your favourite movies or music in a better sound treatment.
** Keep in mind that soundproofing is more effective, easier to install and less expensive when installed in new construction.
